An International Conference on Iceland and The World Economy: Small Island Economies in The Era of Globalization
Monday, 20 May 2002
Starr Auditorium, Kennedy School of Government
Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts
Cosponsored by Islandsbankí, deCode Corporation, University of Iceland and the Center for International Development at Harvard University
Overview
This conference brought together policy makers,
political and business leaders and development experts addressing many of
the pressing challenges that very small economies face in today's global
economy. It served as a rare and important gathering of experts on 'microeconomies',
or economies of less than a million people (in many cases less than 500
000). It sought to answer questions such as: how do countries like Mauritius, Iceland, Micronesia, Caribbean island
economies and others manage to do so well - or not so well - in the age of
globalization?
