Information Technologies Group
The Information Technologies Group is a global thought leader in the area of ICTs and development. It endeavors to translate cutting edge thinking about how ICTs can improve economic development into practical projects, advice and action.
The ITG works at the intersection of business, policy and technology to understand the issues at the core of global efforts to use ICTs to enhance the economic development process.
ITG carries out its work through a variety of channels:
ITG feels that most of the development paradigms of the past have not worked. The power of new technologies, and the excitement that still exists around them, offer us a chance to rethink and redesign our approaches to international development. If we can meld the lessons from the past with the potential of ICTs in the present and future, we feel that we can positively change the world.

Readiness for a Networked World: A Guide for Developing Countries
Readiness for the Networked World: A Guide for Developing Countries is a tool designed to assist leaders in the developing world to assess their preparedness for participating in the global information economy.
The Guide incorporates a systematic approach that looks at both qualitative and quantitative indicators in a community (town, city, province, nation), and provides a robust picture of the opportunities and challenges that the community will face in preparing itself for the New Economy.
The Guide considers five broad areas (network access, networked learning, networked society, networked economy, and network policy) which include nineteen specific categories with indicators that suggest the community's Readiness.
The Guide was initially unveiled 23 February 2000 in Budapest, and was formally released to the public 19 April 2000 in Washington, D.C.

Technology Report 2001-2002: Readiness for the Networked World (GITR)
We are pleased and proud to announce the publication of the Global Information Technology Report: Readiness for the Networked World 2001-2002 (GITR). Part of CID’s book series with the World Economic Forum, the GITR breaks new ground in developing a vision for the relationship between Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and development, understanding how people and organizations are currently turning the promise of ICT into action, and using rigorous analysis to evaluate how we are doing and build capacity for decision-making.
The GITR includes the Networked Readiness Index, which ranks 75 countries on their capacity to leverage ICT, qualitative and quantitative profiles of the ICT environment in those countries, extensive data tables that were used to perform our analysis, and 13 chapters covering diverse issues and insights about ICT and development from leading thinkers in the field.
We hope this multi-faceted approach to understanding the complexities of ICT in the development context is useful, and helps us move toward more effective and appropriate use of ICT in the developing world.

ITG hosted and organized periodic events as ways to disseminate its work, stimulate debate, bring together interested and interesting people, highlight the work of others, and raise consciousness and awareness of issues of ICTs and Development.
ITG's weekly seminar series was an important means of accomplishing these goals, as were its thematic workshops and conferences.
