README for Infectious Diseases

There are three data sets in the Infectious Diseases category (malaria is compiled separately from the others):

  1. extent of infectious diseases (disarea.dta);
  2. areas with infectious diseases weighted by 1994 population (dispop.dta); and
  3. malaria: land area, and land area weighted by 1994 population (malaria.dta).

The data sets are provided in several formats:

These data sets were created as part of The Center for International Development’s ongoing research into the role of geography in economic development (see www.cid.harvard.edu/economic.htm). They were created between 1998 and 1999. Please reference CID if you use this data in a publication.
