CID Position Available: Micro-Development Initiative Research Manager
Position Summary:
This Micro-Development Initiative within the Center for International Development at the Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government seeks to create a center of excellence in micro-development research and to provide immediately exciting and relevant conclusions for policy-making around the world. Further, it aims to support teaching by demonstrating ways in which policy can be developed through rigorous and scientific assessment and evaluation, and to contribute to actual policy making on the ground. The Micro-Development Initiative seeks a research manager to formally launch the initiative and supervise its strategy, outreach, and administration.
Position Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will gain a unique opportunity to shape the Initiative from the ground up, to position it in the development world and within Harvard, and to contribute to cutting-edge research in the area of micro-development. S/he will work closely with faculty to identify and develop policy-relevant research projects and partners, and to publicize policy-relevant conclusions. The research manager will identify funding opportunities for research projects and will manage the grant application, as well as manage progress and outcome reports. S/he will work with the Harvard Kennedy School (HKS) Case Program to develop a set of case studies in micro-development and with Executive Education to create a micro-development course. Will have responsibility for Initiative budget. May serve as co-author on publications. May manage teams of research assistants. Contributes to unit effort by accomplishing related duties as needed.
Essential Skills and Experience:
Strong interest in public policy in developing countries. Masters degree in related field and 3-5 years of related experience. Coursework in economics, including econometrics and microeconomics. Excellent oral and written communication skills. The candidate must be well organized, able to prioritize, and manage multiple assignments simultaneously with minimal supervision. The position requires strong interpersonal skills, the ability to interact well with faculty, staff, students, and research partners in developing countries. Previous experience in research environment and willingness to travel internationally desired.
