Asim Khwaja

EFL Principal Investigator, and Associate Professor of Public Policy at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

Dr. Khwaja has undertaken extensive research in a broad range of microeconomic areas, particularly empirical studies of financial markets and imperfections in the credit market.

He received BS degrees in economics and in mathematics with computer science from MIT and a PhD in economics from Harvard.

Bailey Klinger

EFL Director, and Post-Doctoral Fellow at Harvard's Center for International Development.

Dr. Klinger's research focuses on entrepreneurship and small-business finance, as well as trade, structural transformation and growth.

He has consulted for the World Bank, United Nations, Inter-American Development Bank, and various country governments in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. He received his MPA in International Development and PhD in Public Policy at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government.

Sandra Oliveira

Lab Manager

Sandra is responsible for overall co-ordination and administration of the Entrepreneurial Finance Lab, as well as partner development in the Middle East and North Africa region. She joined Harvard in August of 2007 as the Mexico Program Coordinator. Prior to joining CID Sandra worked as a public school teacher of U.S. and World History to English language learner students who had just arrived in the United States. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Communications with a minor in History from Boston University as well as a Masters of Arts in Teaching with a specialization in History from Boston University.

Jennifer Reimer

Africa Co-ordinator

Jennifer is responsible for coordinating the project in South and East Africa. She came to us in July and has a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and Masters of Business in Finance. Before moving to South Africa, she worked for 10 years in Sales and Marketing in the Consumer Goods industry, for companies such as Nestle, and Inbev. Since her arrival in Johannesburg, she has been working in the Sustainability field, on some projects with an NGO involving empowering women through start-up small businesses, and assisting in writing sustainability reports.

Isabel Kleinau

Latin America Co-ordinator

Isabel manages EFL pilot projects and partner relationships in Latin America. She is a Finance Specialist with SNV Netherlands Development Organization. Prior to joining SNV Isabel worked as a Consultant for Métrica a Peruvian business consultancy. She has an Undergraduate and Masters degree in Economics from Humboldt University in Berlin, specialized in Econometrics and Economic History.

Kevin Williams

Test Development Advisor

Kevin is a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow in Harvard's Department of Psychology, and an advisor to the Director on test development and analysis. He has worked full-time for Morgan Stanley's Equity Research division covering specialty pharmaceuticals and he has passed all three levels of the Chartered Financial Analyst examination. He received his AB and AM in Psychology from Harvard University and is currently a PhD candidate in Harvard's Department of Psychology.

Carla Mejia

Researcher - Latin America

In addition to assisting with pilot testing in Peru and Colombia, Carla is responsible for quality assurance and the analysis of test data. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science with a major in Economics from Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. She is currently a student of the Masters of Science in Applied Mathematics at the same university, where she also works as a teaching assistant.

Kyle Meade

Researcher - Africa

Kyle manages EFL testing and partner relationships in South Africa. He holds an international bachelor of business administration from York University's Schulich School of Business and has also spent time studying at both Fudan University and Chulalongkorn University. He is currently working towards his Masters in Applied Economic Development from the University of Cape Town with a focus on equity financing of start-ups in emerging markets.
