100 DAYS
Vivid Features, is a film facilities and production company with offices in Nairobi, Kenya and Kigali, Rwanda. Vivid has a client list that includes ABC, Paramount, CNN and many others. The company has been involved in Rwanda for the last 10 years - Director/Cameraman Nick Hughes was in Kigali during the Rwandan Genocide of 1994. He wanted the story of the Genocide to be as widely understood as possible. To this end Nick Hughes wrote a script recounting what he witnessed as the Genocide unfolded. The story follows the fate of one family and in particular their teenage daughter. The film will reflect on the fate of women in the Genocide as well as the on the tragic roles of the UN, the French State and the Catholic Church.
The importance of the Rwandan Genocide in history alongside the Holocaust, Stalin's Purges and the Khmer Rouge must not be underplayed. Africa does not have a strong media or wealth and opportunity enough to highlight the suffering of its people. But that does not mean Rwanda's very recent past should be just put aside. The magnitude of the killing, faster than the Holocaust, the betrayal of the Rwandan people as they were abandoned by the World, must never be forgotten.
Vivid Features funded the production with up to one million US dollars in equipment, crewing and cash. It also raised finances from within Rwanda itself to enable the start of production. With this investment we finished the actual filming in November last year and are currently editing the Film. Though the film is all but finished funding continues to be a critical issue.
