Francisco Gil-Diaz has been the Finance and Public Credit Minister of Mexico since 2000. Prior to his appointment, he was Chief Executive Officer of Avantel, a Mexican telecommunications company, from December 1997 to November 2000. Previously, Mr. Gil-Diaz was vice-governor of the Central Bank of Mexico, from 1994 to 1997, where he had also served as director of economic research, director general of tax policy and member of the board of governors. In addition, he has also held the position of under-secretary for revenue in the Secretariat of Finance and Public Credit. Mr. Gil-Diaz is been a professor emeritus at the Mexican Autonomous Institute of Technology (ITAM), a member of the governing board of the Iberoamerican University and of the board of visitors of the Anderson School of Business at UCLA.
Mr. Gil-Diaz obtained his Bachelors of Economics degree from ITAM, and his Ph.D. in Economics from University of Chicago.
