This presentation is meant to share key lessons with future decision makers based on nearly four years of work experience with Mexican Agrarian Communities and Mexican Officials. The Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve will be the starting point through which to discuss major development challenges in Mexico such as government-community relations, the fight against organized crime, inter-institutional coordination and community organization and empowerment.
Jordi Honey-Rosés (MPP2, KSG'07) worked at the Mexican Ministry of the Environment (SEMARNAP) in late 2000, and then coordinated World Wildlife Fund’s (WWF) Monarch Butterfly Conservation Program from Mexico City and Zitácuaro, Michoacán between 2001 and 2005.
