The Harvard Institute for International Development

HIID’s series of Development Discussion Papers (DDPs) was established at the inception of the Institute in 1974. From that time, HIID staff members wrote over 700 papers on a wide variety of development topics, based on their project experience and research. The series includes sub-series on agriculture and food policy, education, taxation, economic reform, environment, papers presented at conferences, and a series resulting from research conducted under the Central America Project.

Abstracts are available for papers #469 and higher. Copies of the papers are available electronically in downloadable PDF format from each paper's abstract page. (If a paper is not linked from this page the PDF is not available; please do not email asking us to send it to you.)  In order to view the papers in PDF format, you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader. Please click here to go to Adobe's website to download the necessary software.

Please note that Development Discussion Papers are copyrighted and may not be duplicated, disseminated, or appropriated by others without permission. If quoted, the papers should be cited appropriately.
